task 16
I have done a very good job of taking pictures of Will but I have done a horrible job of actually downloading the pictures to the computer. I must be very bad and impatient with dealing with sites like these because I always get frustrated after five minutes editing the picture. I even tried reading the Photoshop.com Frequently Asked Questions with out much luck. I did like the autocorrect-it is a perfect tool for someone like me.
task 15
I have always used Internet Explorer as my search engine. At work I sometimes use Firefox because the site automatically defaults to it-stapleslink.com. Sometimes I am not the most observant person it took me a few times to notice. The article about Firefox had some interesting add-ons that would be fun to use: Resurrect pages & fireshot. I have bad habit of clicking out of sites to far. I now plan on using Firefox at work and internet explorer at home -James does not like Firefox because he says it takes over your computer. I'll let him read that article.
task 14
I was amazed at how much information is on our website! Quick Links is a very helpful site in navigating our website. I knew that the bookmobiles stops were on our website but I always forget to check when patrons ask. As a result I end up looking for the paper behind the front desk to give them an answer. Next time I get asked that question I will now know what to do. The most helpful resource I found was autropolis.com under consumer information. Again where was this site when I was looking for used car.
task 13
I found Instructables to be an okay site. I would not use it as a first choice but as a second or third and only if I could not find any information anywhere else. SoYouWanna.com just seemed very busy. Lifehacker seemed a good site to use if you were browsing the Internet. The story about cpr was great-another one bites the dust or staying alive-your choice.
task 12
43 things is a very helpful site to see examples of what others are doing to achieve their goals. I like to keep my goals private but looking at the site could give you ideas. Mint would be helpful site to gather money information - I checked out buying a used car. However, I would be afraid to put in my bank information.
task 4
I created the Dixie Chicks station-I really liked the choices that they gave me. I would definitely use Pandora at work-now if I could just find some headphones.
task 9
This is such a helpful site. Patrons that are looking for a job should definitely check out this site-it gives you an idea of what to expect, or if a certain career path is the right choice for you. Teenagers who are trying to decide to go to college and what to study once they are there can search Vault to see how much they could make and possible job responsibilities. This a great site because their are so many options in one place.
task 11
I feel like the mom in the commercials-I never text. Okay, I have texted twice and both times I typed the whole word no slang for me. This would have been a nice site to use when I kept seeing the symbol <3 on message boards. I had to ask what it meant.
task 10
I already use IMDB for work-when I need to know actors in movies, the year they were released, and the rating. This is to make cards for ordering the movies. It is very easy to use and search. AllMusic is also as easy to use and browse. I would definitely use these sites to help answer questions. I prefer the IMDB over Allmovie to search but only because I always use IMDB.
task 8
I have come across sites that require registration and I would definitely use bugmenot. For one I never remember passwords and two do they really need to know personal information. I found the retailmenot site interesting. I would like to try a coupon online first to see if it works before I went to store and tried it. Shopping = fun.
task 7
I have been signed up for the email since we started the book club. This week selection is Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler. I liked getting the preview in my email, it gives me a chance to look at a book I would not have normally checked out. This book is now on my list of books to read which is getting larger due to a 3 month and not being able to concentrate. Who needs sleep?
task 6
I checked out Diana Gabaldon's website-my favorite author! I used the yahoo author search to find her site. You can also use novelist to find her . The site was very easy to use but it is very frustrating to read that her new book in the series is not even close to be done and she is planning to write other books that include other characters (my rant for the day). I would definitely go back for more information. Patrons would find this to be a very easy site to use.
task 3
My topic is child car safety. Will and I were in a fender bender last week. I need to know if I should replace the car seat. This research showed me that I need to replace his carseat and insurance should pay for it.
good: government sponsored site
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/injury/childps/ChildRestraints/ReUse/RestraintReUse.htm
ok: conflict of interest-trying to sell more carseats
http://www.gracobaby.com
bad: does not give any information-just sells carseats
http://www.nextag.com/child-car-seat-safety

task 2
Browse these fact check sites. Which ones do you find most helpful? Would you recommend these to patrons? Is there anything about any of these sites you do not like?
I hate negative ads-it makes me want to vote for the other candidate, but what do you do if both candidates are behaving like kids?
Of all the sites I liked politifat.com the best. It was easy to use and understand. I would definitely recommend to our patrons. FactCheck.org is a good site to use if you want more information.

1st task
Ok, it has taken me awhile to get started-I feel like a slacker. I am having a hard time getting back into the swing of things but I am ready to get more tech savvy.
I still use bloglines everyday to get my news, gossip, etc. It helps me keep track of all the sites that I like. Last challenge, I got a mp3 player. This challenge a portable DVD player.
